Where, in alaska, do you live?
I live in a log home on a homestead just outside of the rural village of Talkeetna. Talkeetna boasts a population of 850 people and is located at the base of North America’s tallest mountain peak, Denali. The townsite of Talkeetna was established in 1916. My own family first made our way to Talkeetna as railroad workers and homesteaders around 1949. Talkeetna has a rich history and is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites.
And yeah, living here is completely awesome!
Do you groom your poodles yourself?
Yes! I sure do!
I am a self-taught groomer of my poodles. I believe anyone who puts their mind to it, can learn to groom their own poodle!
My journey to learn grooming began in 2016 with myself, my poodles, and a Poodle Variety magazine. I began by looking at pictures and studying the trims on other poodles.
In the years since 2016, I’ve taken several online grooming courses that have taught me the foundations necessary for poodles… from pet trims to show trims. I continue to hone my skills by asking questions and listening to the advice of my wonderful poodle mentors.
Do you ever have puppies available?
I do sometimes have poodle puppies available to good, discerning forever homes. Please feel free to fill out the puppy application form. I would love to start a conversation with you about puppies!
What is life like for your poodles?
Life is great!
Galavanting Poodles live a holistic lifestyle here in Alaska. Holistic living means my poodles’ whole being is taken into consideration to give them the most optimal quality of life. We hike and camp throughout Central and South Central Alaska. Backcountry galavanting is at the core of our activities. Galavanting poodles live and play in a wilderness filled with moose, bear, coyotes, and fox.
Galavanting poodles eat a species appropriate diet of raw food.
Where else can I find you online?
You can find my social media accounts through my name, Melissa Laggis.
More specifically, Facebook and Instagram.
What is The Güd Poodle?
Great question!
The Güd Poodle is my herbal company for dogs. We create products, like salve and shampoo, made from herbs that are harvested or wild crafted (picked in their native habitat) right here in Alaska. The products created through The Güd Poodle are the same products I use on my own poodles!
I love reading your blog, can I suggest a topic for you to write about?
