Finding Your Way

Have you ever been lost in the woods?
I have.
More times than I can count, actually.

But do you know…
I learned from my father that nature gives us clues.

If I take a moment to stop.

Breathe.

And make a note of my surroundings, I can get a sense as to where I am.

And more importantly; where I need to go.

“Mushrooms like coolness and wet. You’ll find them on the north side of the tree. Where the sun’s heat is less intense.”

My father taught me that.

Can I just tell you?
That bit of advice has redirected me in the woods on more than one occasion.

When in doubt, my first objective is to find north.
Sometimes I have to walk and walk until I find the mushrooms growing on the tree.
Other times I have to sit down.
Settle in.
And take stock of exactly what it is I’m looking for in those great big woods.

But always, I find, when I keep my eyes open and just don’t quit… I will see those markers Mother Nature will place for me.
And I will find my north.

I can’t help but think these same principles apply in every day life.
Would you agree?
